Celebrating the Art of Gelato: Canada’s Top Artisans Compete for a Spot in the North American Semifinals
Mississauga, ON – February 13, 2025 – The search for the world’s best gelato is making a highly anticipated stop in Ontario as Cool King Refrigeration proudly hosts the Carpigiani Challenge in Mississauga. This elite competition, part of the renowned Gelato Festival World Masters, will bring together 15 of Canada’s finest gelato artisans as they compete to advance to the North American Semifinals in 2025.
The event, taking place on February 20, is organized by Carpigiani North America in partnership with Cool King Refrigeration—a leading supplier of premium gelato equipment and commercial refrigeration solutions in Canada. The competition is part of a global journey spanning 2022-2025, showcasing the best artisan gelato talents from around the world.
A Prestigious Gelato Competition with a Global Legacy

The Gelato Festival World Masters is an internationally recognized championship that has been searching for the best gelato flavors since 2010. In collaboration with Carpigiani Gelato University—the world’s top school for gelato entrepreneurs—and Sigep – Italian Exhibition Group, the competition promotes the authentic culture of Italian gelato and its craftsmanship worldwide.
As part of this exclusive challenge, competing gelato chefs will prepare their signature flavors in a specially equipped gelato laboratory at Cool King Refrigeration’s headquarters in Mississauga. A distinguished panel of industry experts, food journalists, and local chefs will evaluate each entry based on flavor, texture, creativity, and technical execution. The top three gelato artisans will move on to the 2025 North American Semifinals, taking one step closer to competing in the World Finals.

The Road to the Gelato Festival World Masters

The Gelato Festival began in Florence in 2010, inspired by the legacy of Bernardo Buontalenti, the Italian architect credited with inventing the first gelato recipe in 1559. Over the years, the festival has expanded across Italy, Europe, and North America, evolving into a global championship. The last edition of the Gelato Festival World Masters saw 3,500 gelato artisans from across the globe competing for the title of world’s best gelato maker.
The 2025 North American Semifinals will determine which artisans will represent Canada and compete against top gelato masters from Europe, Asia, and South America in the World Finals.
